The Tragedy of Polanski

The outrage over Roman Polanski's arrest grows louder, but also sillier.

Here's what American actress Debra Winger (and President of the jury of the Zurich film festival) has said:
[The arrest] is based on a three-decade-old case that is all but dead but for minor technicalities.

Would they be the "he committed a sex crime, pleaded guilty and then fled the jurisdiction" technicalities?

  1. Let Roman go! This is a typical move by the DA's office in Los Angeles...create a high profile diversion to cover up poor performance by the office (DA) itself.

Those quick to judsge should be reminded that the "star witness" in this case is Polanski's greatest asset...if she were required to testify, the DA's office would list her as "hostile" LOL. One other point to consider is that, at the time of the offence, California's "age of consent" was 14. The girl was just a few month's short. The sentencing judge???Well, I'm sure everyone familiar knows the particulars re: the nutcase!

    Best wishes Roman!!!

  2. That's an interesting opinion, but it ignores the rather troubling fact that Polanski was also accused of drugging the victim.

I would agree there are some questions over the conduct of the judge and prosecution. Polanski may well be able to have this case thrown out, but it will probably take his presence in the US to do it.

  3. That is also a good point. However the "victim's" statement re: the Quaalude indicated that appx 1/4 of a tablet was consumed. I can tell you, for a fact, that 1/4 of a prescription Methaquaalone tablet would not blur the young lady to oblivion. I guess one might say it is my professional opinion having been a traficker of that substance in Southern Florida. I am all to familiar...jail sentence included . LOL The champagne however, probably has been understated.

I agree with you re: a favorable disposition after a personal appearance. LA's DA office is far to prideful (false pride I must say) to negotiate w/o Polanskis presence. So...they spend probably close to a million getting him back here. All the legal hagling in europe(now that Polanski says he'll fight extradition)...airfare, hotels food etc...for what? TIME SERVED!!!LOL..or 30days...BUT a big feather in the DA's hat.

I think, that if given bail in Switzerland...Polanski should flee again....Bali, Seychelles...somewhere that has NO extradition...Costa Rica????Roman definitely has friends worldwide and unlimited funds. Gotta ask yourself..."What would Jesus do?" LOL...kidding, no offence!!! Seriously though, I really do ask myself that question. Me...I would flee...God 70 plus years old??? I wouldn't want to die in a cell alone why going thru all the BS! Run Roman Run ....[I guess] PEACE
