Nobody Listens To Bloggers

Slow news day?
Pete Bethune's defence in court that he thought firing acid bottles at a Japanese whaling ship was safe has sparked widespread reaction in Japan.
The journalist who wrote this piece then trawls some Japanese blogs to get a feel for the "word on the street."

Why not? It's easy and doesn't require the journalist to get off their arse or use their brain. And we all know how representative of society bloggers are.

Imagine if a journalist writing for a major Japanese newspaper was writing a piece on New Zealanders' reactions to the Bethune trial, and in doing so decided to sample some Kiwi blogs. "What is this Whaleoil all about then? Sounds delicious. Wait...Oh my God!"

Maybe the friendly folk at Kiwiblog or No Minister could provide enlightenment or, for a reasoned and sober left-wing analysis, why not Tumeke? Or The Standard?

Let's face facts: we bloggers like to think our opinions count, but they don't. And most bloggers hold extreme opinions.

So why kid ourselves that the views of a bunch of Japanese bloggers could possibly shed light on the Bethune trial?

Nobody listens to bloggers. And fair enough too. Most of us are nutjobs.

  1. The trouble is, a lot of journalists interview their browsers.

  3. And yet creatures like Whaleoil think that their opinion counts and that they have a massive amount of support ?! Very delusional...

  4. Possibly because he's had his face on the telly and in the papers a couple of times. The NZ media haven't exactly helped to pour cold water on his over-inflated sense of self-worth.
