And For The Auckland Local Body Elections I Endorse...

David Farrar has posted on who he thinks his readers should vote for in the coming Auckland local elections.

Why he bothers I'm not sure. Everyone he endorses is either the C&R candidate, or a candidate whose own policies are closely aligned with C&R's policies. Farrar's National Party affiliations are well-known, so his endorsement will not surprise anyone.

His endorsement of Cameron Slater really puts friendship ahead of the public good, though. Putting aside all the awful things Slater stands for, I thought he suffered from a mental disorder and was on a sickness benefit. If all this is true Slater would be unable to deal with the stress of being a councillor, surely. I'm sure if someone was running for City Vision while on a benefit we'd all have heard about it.

I don't generally endorse candidates, because I'm no party's flunky, and people have the habit of turning out differently to the way you expected them to be. But I can safely say that I'll go to my grave before voting for any of the C&R candidates in my area, or for John Banks.

I don't love Len Brown, but he has one attribute his main rival cannot match: he is not John Banks.

Update: I've just stepped into my time machine and zapped forward to 2013. Farrar is saying "vote C&R". Who would have guessed?

  2. I would say DPF is acting as a flawless cog in the vast right wing conspiracy, trying to claim to be an independent commentator (and it's certainly true he does love to make self-congratulatory references to how he must be impartial because he once had a beer with a Labour MP) but there's a more likely explanation - he just sees himself as some kind of authority and loves to pontificate.
