Meet the Latest 911 Truther

There has always been an association between the beliefs of the 911 "Truth" movement and anti-Zionism. Many conspiracy theorists believe the 911 attack was either orchestrated or encouraged by Mossad, Israel's secret service. There isn't actually any evidence of Israel's involvement, but when has a lack of evidence ever stopped a conspiracy theory?

What has been harder to pin down conclusively is an association between the 911 Truthers and anti-semitism. There is a line where rabid anti-Zionism crosses into anti-semitism, though it's not always clear.

But the association between 911 "Truth" and anti-semitism is now starting to look a lot clearer. On Thursday the arch anti-semite Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an absurd speech at the UN claiming that US intelligence was behind the 911 attack.

A lot of seemingly sane people believe in the nonsense pedalled by the likes of Richard Gage and other 911 Truthers. They are now supported by a man condemned as a rabid Holocaust denier by his own words. For example:

"They (the Western powers) launched the myth of the Holocaust. They lied, they put on a show and then they support the Jews."

"They have invented a myth that Jews were massacred and place this above God, religions and the prophets."

"The real Holocaust is what is happening in Palestine where the Zionists avail themselves of the fairy tale of Holocaust as blackmail and justification for killing children and women and making innocent people homeless."

"Some European countries insist on saying that during World War II, Hitler burned millions of Jews and put them in concentration camps... any historian, commentator or scientist who doubts that is taken to prison or gets condemned. Although we don't accept this claim [of the holocaust], if we suppose it is true..."

The Iranian President would probably enjoy the books of David Irving.

This is why I have no time for conspiracy theories. They always end up in a bad place.
