National's perverse response is a classic bit of Doublethink:
Prime Minister John Key has reacted to unemployment figures released this morning, saying more people are seeking work, and "confidence is coming back".Perhaps, Mr Key, more people are seeking work because they are jobless. People already in employment don't tend to look for work.
But wait, there's more!
John Key has been telling people that, despite the unemployment figures being bad, they aren't nearly as bad as those in some countries.
That's like being robbed and beaten and then being told by police that you're lucky, because if it had happened in Johannesburg you'd be dead.
