Opposition parties say minister outside Cabinet John Banks has lost all credibility after fresh revelations into his mayoralty donations scandalWhat utter utter rubbish. John Banks hasn't lost an ounce of credibility over these latest revelations.
How could he possibly lose something he does not possess?
John Banks won't say sorry, nor will he resign, but someone should be accountable over this debacle.
So let's find out which Epsom residents voted for John Banks, and strip them of the right to vote. If we could make some sort of public spectacle of this, complete with rotten vegetables being thrown, then that would be good too.
Yes, I know it's a bit unorthodox and highly undemocratic, and amounts to an absurd overreaction, but special circumstances, greater good etc etc...
Are you with me, comrades? Hello? Are you there? Anyone?
Right behind you!
ReplyDeleteI found Grant Robertson's rabid frothing about this particularly galling.
ReplyDeleteHe obviously assumes that we have forgotten the illegal plundering of public money that Labour undertook in the run up to the 2005 election. A law change (retrospective) took care of that for them.
Add the Bill Liu cash for passport scandal that is still bubbling away and he really should STFU.
That is in no way offered as a "I know we did, but they did too" defense.
They are all thieves and rorters. Every single party in parliament today has bent and twisted the rules to raise funds.
barnsley. So you do want Banks to resign? And you want others to resign too?
ReplyDeleteOr, you don't want Banks to resign and you want to run distraction lines?
If anyone is rabidly frothing at the mouth it appears to be Barnsley Bill! What the heck are you on BB? You might benefit from a dose of diazapam if only we can get close enough to you to administer some.
ReplyDeleteDo I want Banks to resign for not breaking the law in a mayoralty race in much the same way the winner of that mayoralty race did?
ReplyDeleteFuck it. Why not. He adds no value.
In the last ten years we have seen some absolutely breathtakingly bad behaviour from politicians on all sides of the house.
I put Banks shilling for donations outside the top 10 at this stage.
We have cash for passports, stealing from the taxpayer to fund election campaigns, allegations of stupefying and sexual assault, tiling for residency and wanking on the backs of the taxpayer all fighting for top 3 status in the hall of shame.

DeleteYes, there's plenty of bad stuff. But some of it didn't go beyond being mere allegation (e.g re the Hughes matter we don't actually know what happened). I don't think Banks' actions are as bad as Philip Field's, for example. But the evidence so far released and Banks' own explanations damn him (morally and ethically, if not legally).
The people of Epsom have form for this too. They kept putting Rodney Hide back in.
"wanking on the backs of the taxpayer" (BB)
DeleteIt's fascinating (or disturbing) that Barnsley Bill seriously believes that masturbating in private is a greater crime than lying to the public.
Paging Dr Freud ...
"Do I want Banks to resign for not breaking the law in a mayoralty race in much the same way the winner of that mayoralty race did?"
DeleteOne, Banks DID break the law (or so the Police think) ... it's just that the offence he (allegedly) committed cannot be prosecuted due a time limit on such charges. Just as those responsible for (allegedly) overspending on Labour's election expenses back in 2005 couldn't be prosecuted due to a time limit on those charges.
Two, the released details of the Police's investigation into Banks' activities show he's repeatedly lied about what he knew and when he knew it. Doesn't the fact a Minister of the Crown has lied to the public and (apparently) to the Prime Minister matter? Or, do you agree that the only relevant test is one of legality - and that "there's quite a wide definition of ethics"?
I don't think it necessary to find out which residents voted for Banks. Lets assume guilt by association and pelt the lot.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that voters should be held accountable. See also Whanganui, Tauranga, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you singling out Whanganui Rich? Or are you referring to the mayoralty?
DeleteDon't forget to drug test them all and confiscate their homes if they don't pass, oh and send all to pre-school.
