Waitakere To Get Waitakere Man?

Claire Trevett reports that John Tamihere has rejoined the Labour Party and wants to stand for Waitakere.

I don't rate his chances, assuming Carmel Sepuloni decides to stand again. She came within a few votes of taking the seat off Paula Bennett, despite Labour doing badly across the country.

Of more concern to many on the left would be Tamihere's politics. He is to the right of the party on a lot of issues. Sure, Labour's a "broad church", but a candidate has to genuinely believe in the values of their party. Does Tamihere? I guess we will find out in good time.

I don't want to bag Tamihere, because he has many strengths and is a good communicator. Maybe there's a place for him in the next Labour caucus. But he must demonstrate loyalty to his party, and discipline. Is he capable of doing so?

  1. Personally, I think that Tamihere and Damien O'Connor should form a party called the Waitakere Man Party, where there will be no gaggle of gays and no self-serving unionists allowed. Chris Trotter, the creator of Waitakere Man will be the party President. It'll be an absolute winner, won't it?

Lost Tamaki Makarau. Mean to cats.
And now he feels he might get Labour to nominate him and the proletards in Waitakere to vote for him?

    1. Yep, he meets all those qualities that other Labour MP's have displayed, except all in one package.
      Has to be a winner.
      Bring him on.

  3. All the evidence anybody needs is available from 12.30 to 3 pm, weekdays. Forget the candidate interview: just tune in to Radio Live and confirm your worst fears.

Who are Labour picking next? Murray Deaker? Leighton Smith?

Alan Jones might be looking for a job soon.
