My Politician Of The Year

It's John Banks.

For having the tenacity and courage to lie to the public again and again. Telling so many brazen untruths took a special sort of bravery. His efforts to depict himself as the wronged party were unflagging, even as all the evidence suggested he had engaged in activity that, if not outright unlawful, was certainly unethical and shabby.

For proving us all wrong by surviving with his career intact and holding onto his ministerial position, even if his reputation is forever shattered.

For being courageous enough to turn up to work every day, despite being a laughing stock.

For soldiering on in the bruising and unforgiving world of politics, despite suffering from multiple memory lapses.

For charting new territory for ACT by making many of the party's few remaining supporters feel ill at the very mention of their leader's name.

But most of all, for introducing the term "cabbage boat" to our political lexicon.

  1. With these criteria, Hekia Parata, Judith Collins, and John Key must be in the running too.

  2. Its a tough one and Banksy is certainly right up there, but consider Crusher, Hekia, Paula and Tiny Dancer Anne for the 'award' also.

  3. David Shearer must be worth an honourable mention.
Mumbles has battled internal knife attacks, the rabid screeching of the blogs and his debilitating incompetence when plonked in front of a camera or microphone. But yet is still the leader of the party workers party.

  4. Quite correct, to lie so often surely takes a supreme mental effort, his place in the Pantheon of scum bag politicians is secure and he can rest easy at night..

    1. Great choice, considering Banksie is involved with so much that is going on.
The confidence & supply aggreement with a National government hanging by it fingernails has brought us Charter (oops Patnership, now) schools.

The "Family trust of Banksie had $????????? invested in Talent 2, the operator of Novapay. These were sold on 28th May 2012. Fair tender process????????????????

How can someone with so little public support grab so much power?

Hekia Parata, Judith Collins, Jerry (the CHCH wrecker)and John Key must be in the running too.

Be bloody GREAT if it was an election next year, before their combined skills completely stuff up New Zealand
