Because I'm Lazy Part V

My blogging activities are still infrequent, despite a recent burst of activity. The good news for those of you becoming bored by the rehashing of old blogposts is that I'm almost up to March 2012. Here's one from late February.

Man Dismisses Hero Label After Daring Tea Rescue

An Auckland office worker has been labelled a selfless hero after rescuing a colleague’s cup of tea yesterday afternoon.

I Need Your Help

I don't usually appeal for help, but this is a good cause.

December can be a very difficult time of year for some people. It's a time of loneliness for many without families to share Christmas cheer, while for others the demands of the festive season can be financially crippling.

Did Trevor Do It?

Did Trevor Mallard skip out of Wiggles touring
duties
 to rig a poll result?
I heard via social media* that a Herald on Sunday preferred prime minister poll gave David Shearer 25% (sorry, I can't find it online). Shearer's still miles behind John Key, but it is a huge jump from previous preferred PM poll results.

This should not be happening. If the many commenters and bloggers on The Standard and elsewhere are to be believed, Shearer's leadership dooms Labour to many more years in opposition.

So what's going on? Is it a rogue poll? Or has someone in Labour somehow rigged the results? But who would do such a thing, and how?

My pick would be Trevor Mallard. Don't ask me how he did it, but he gets the blame for pretty much everything else and he's thick-skinned, so let's just blame Trevor for this result. He won't mind.

Because I'm Lazy Part IV

Maybe tomorrow I will feel like blogging something original. Maybe. In the meantime, here's something I wrote in February.

Radio NZ Is Making Do

Radio New Zealand bosses yesterday assured a parliamentary select committee that the broadcaster would cope with the ongoing funding freeze.

Because I'm Lazy Part III

I'm still in holiday mode, so here's another post from earlier in the year.

McCaw, Carter Supreme Winners At Literature Awards

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw was given the supreme award at the Steinlager New Zealand Literature Awards last night.

Because I'm Lazy Part II

I am on holiday, and have no real motivation to write something clever or original. So here's something I wrote early in 2012.

The Three Little Pigs: A Tale Of Horror By H.P. Lovecraft

In relating the circumstances of the death of my brothers and my own descent into this terminal madness, I am aware that my current situation must create doubt as to the authenticity of my narrative. But I also know that my clinging hope that some person of learning will read my tale and make something of my ordeal is a futile one.

From The Christmas Archives

Because it's Christmas and I can't be bothered blogging on the evils of the world, here's a post from way back in 2010

Copyright and brand owners were celebrating yesterday after a United States court issued a landmark ruling.

A Message From The NRA

A guest post from the National Rifle Association

We are all appalled and horrified by the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We are all left asking how this could have happened. Could this nightmare have been avoided? And who is to blame?

Doomsday Is Cancelled

The Doomsday Licensing and Registration Board wishes to advise the public that there will be no world-end today.

The annihilation of everything had been scheduled for 0800 today, but due to staff shortages in our Mayan division we have been left with no choice but to cancel the event.

My 2013 Predictions

Because everyone else is doing them, and I'd hate to be left out, here are some predictions for 2013.

Broken clock

Colin Craig will have something sensible and valuable to contribute on a major issue of the moment.

My Politician Of The Year

It's John Banks.

For having the tenacity and courage to lie to the public again and again. Telling so many brazen untruths took a special sort of bravery. His efforts to depict himself as the wronged party were unflagging, even as all the evidence suggested he had engaged in activity that, if not outright unlawful, was certainly unethical and shabby.

An Unexpected Ordeal

The success of Peter Jackson has got me thinking. I'm clearly doing my blogging all wrong.

I was going to write a succinct post setting out my predictions for 2013, but that would obviously have been a mistake.

Minister Contemplates Bain Options

David Bain’s compensation bid hit a major snag, after questions were raised about a judge’s report on his innocence.

Justice Ian Binnie’s report determined that David Bain was innocent on the balance of probabilities of the murder of his family.

On Fisher v Binnie

I haven't read the Binnie or Fisher reports in full, or all the various correspondences or press releases being fired out by the participants in the latest David Bain fiasco.

Collins Crushes Binnie Report

If I commissioned a notable international jurist to write a legal report for me, it would take a lot of convincing from others for me to throw it in the bin. But that appears to be what Justice Minister Judith Collins has done with Justice Binnie's report on David Bain's compensation bid.

Collins' behaviour is unusual, even bold, because Binnie is highly respected and his independence in this matter is unquestionable.

New Zealand Cricket Recruits Fresh Talent

In an unexpected move, Dunedin South MP Clare Curran today confirmed she would quit politics to take up a new role at New Zealand Cricket.

Are The Guns Turned Inwards?

Or are some people just overreacting?

I didn't know what to make of the claims being made on The Standard about a Labour MP threatening to "out" or discipline certain bloggers and blog commenters. So I read a number of posts and hundreds of hundreds of blog comments.

Ten Important Friday Questions

Has New Zealand Cricket been taking man-management lessons from the Labour Party?

When can we start politicking over the Hobsonville tornado?

Even The King Must Follow The Rules

So Brendan Horan has been booted out of New Zealand First’s caucus, but does he remain a member of the party?

In fact it seems reasonably clear that he does, until his party membership is formally terminated by NZ First’s board, but someone might need to tell Winston that.

New Testing Regime For Party Pills

Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne has announced a new testing regime for political party pills, after concerns were raised about the testing of animals.

Mr Dunne said he will put a stop to the lethal dose (LD50) test, which involves dosing a test group of dogs with a drug until half the group dies. He described the test as "barbaric and disgusting".

Your Twitter Troubles Are Finally Over!

I know that many of my readers are active on Twitter. But if you’re like me then you probably have trouble finding the time to respond to all those tweets from other people.

What John Tamihere's Return Means

The decision by Labour's ruling council to allow John Tamihere to rejoin the party should be interpreted as one of the following:
